An introduction to what is next
Cam talks about what has been made and what needs to be posted.
Why I chose the C5
Well, my first "cool car" was a C4 Corvette. What a blast that car was - classic 80s wedge, cool interior, and a pretty solid drivetrain. However, my buddy kept urging me to hit the track... I knew I was gonna need something better than the C4 to keep up with his 992 Carrera S! Thus, I decided to sell the C4 and focus on saving up for a C5 Z06. I don't know if I'd necessarily spend the extra for a C5Z again, but I do prefer the body style.
My perceived weakspots of the C5
- Desperately needs enhanced cooling - oil cooler, larger radiator, etc.
- The stock seats are TERRIBLE for track driving!
- Stock brakes are pretty underwhelming, even with nice Hawk pads. I like a stiffer pedal, personally.
- This is more "advanced", but it's somewhat common knowledge the camber eccentric system on the subframes are mediocre for holding settings under harsh track conditions.
Parts I've made to solve these problems - and more
- Universal(ish) oil cooler mounting brackets (To be posted soon)
- Adjustable fixed bucket seat bracket kit (Coming after the oil cooler)
- Camber lockout plates - posted!
- Instructional on making all 4 steam ports on the block functional
- Hood vents definitely help with cooling! (Needs more testing - posting TBD)
- Spline driven 2 piece brake rotor - this will probably be a paid part, the design process is taking a very, very long time.
- Other miscellaneous small parts, like camber shims or small accesory brackets are also coming down the pipeline.
Why not just post it all now?
Well, I think I'd like there to be some documentation to support everything. The onus is on the end user for all the open source stuff, so I don't want someone who isn't necessarily mechanically inclined to try their hand at some of this stuff and just totally fail.
Send Cut Send...
All of my open source parts will be available through Send Cut Send. If you'd like, you can purchase them through my marketplace page, and I get a small commission when you do. If you're not interested, no problem - simply download the part and re-upload it to Send Cut Send with your own account.
Stocking parts
I also plan on stocking some of the open source stuff and keeping them around as kits with instructions and templates. I do list all the hardware needed for some of the parts, but this would just be an "all inclusive" sort of thing.
